Welcome

The Youth Achievement Foundation (YAF) is a 501(c)3, non profit, tax-exempt educational foundation which provides mentoring and other educational support to struggling students from underprivileged areas.

The YAF is dedicated to assisting disadvantaged youth throughout Texas by organizing and sponsoring supplementary educational programs that enable them to develop into college educated, upright leaders who serve family and community.

Our students come from schools receiving extensive Title One support from the Federal Government. We seek struggling students who are capable of performing well, and try to reach them before they become discouraged and quit the system.

Most school districts have programs for "gifted" or "troubled" students, but not for those in the middle. We target those students.

A typical student entering our program is failing at least one course or has scored poorly on their Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (T.A.K.S.) tests. (kudos kids)

We will, however, accept any child, if the school believes he/she would specially benefit from our program.

We differ from other tutoring programs because we offer a long-term commitment. Once a student enters our program, they remain eligible to continue with us, provided that they stay within the school district and keep on with their studies.

Our goal is to continue working with our students through high school, and, as they approach graduation, to help them enter college.

Our mentors are volunteers coming from all walks of life who agree to dedicate approximately two hours a week to work with one child throughout a semester.

They can be young or old, single or married. Their ages currently range from early 20's to mid 60's.
